My time at Squeeze started almost three years ago. My teammate, Joe, had been going to Squeeze for a few months and had finally convinced me to attend a Saturday morning bootcamp. When he told me about the type of workout it was, I said to myself “I’m in shape, have an active job, play football…how hard can it be?” In all honesty I have never been more humbled in my entire life. About halfway through the bootcamp I started getting the sweats, couldn’t slow down my breathing, and was pretty much hating life and especially Joe who was working out along side me. I had just had my ass handed to me by a 5’2″, overly energetic, Devil in Spandex who seemed to enjoy the punishment she had released on me. At the time I thought that I would never be back. Then in the morning I woke up, sore as shit, and my competitive nature kicked in. I wasn’t going to let Shannon win…
I started to attend just about every Saturday morning bootcamp. Each time I started to notice a difference in my endurance. Each time my confidence got higher. Pretty soon I started to look forward to going to Squeeze every Saturday. When I started I used the training at Squeeze as just a cardio workout, but as I grew closer with Shannon she started to gear my training towards football. In April, Shannon teamed up with the semi-pro football team, Wauwatosa Spartans, I play on. Our off-season training sessions were no joke. Not being able to walk straight for a week because “every day is leg day” made me keep coming back for more. It made me hungry to see how far I could push my body. Shannon knows how to translate what we do on the field into a workout so you’re not just working out to work out. You’re working out in a way that is going to help keep you up when you get knocked off balance, run over a defender, or rip through the line. The raw, core strength I gained is undeniable. The practicality of the training is mind blowing. During the season Shannon wanted to stay on with us to help us recover after our games. I have had three ACL surgeries and constant tight hips. The training we were put through during the season was customized to each one of our needs. It was truly a gift to have her in our corner for the entire season. I have never felt better than I do now.
Squeeze has made me discover a passion for training. By seeing how Shannon genuinely cares about each and every one of her clients has inspired me to become a trainer. I have always worked out but never thought any more of it. Since I have grown closer to Shannon I have learned that being healthy is not just a fad but a lifestyle that you have to embrace to its fullest.
My outlook on life and my health has done a complete 180 in three years. I am truly blessed to have Shannon as a mentor. I am looking forward to taking everything she is going to throw at me and put a unique sports minded twist on it. I’m excited to live a life I’m meant to live. I want to affect someone’s life the same way that Devil in Spandex affected mine. Oh, and one day I will win even if the score is 2,000,000 to 1.
For about five years, I worked progressively harder each year to eat better, eat less, and exercise more — all with the goal of losing weight. I spent thousands of dollars and hours trying Seattle Sutton, Weight Watchers®, BodyBugg™, personal trainers, and five a.m. boot camps five days a week. To my surprise, every year I gained a few
more pounds and couldn’t fit into last season’s clothes. I went to my doctor year after year getting my thyroid tested and looking for some medical reason why the less I ate, the more I weighed. Doctors and endocrinologists lectured me about the fact that my metabolism slows down as I age and explained the portion size of a chicken breast. Why wasn’t anyone taking me seriously?
Then my friends Diana Rose and Tami White encouraged me to try their new workout place — Squeeze Studio Fitness. Since I hadn’t known Diana and Tami to be big on exercise like I had been all these years, I was expecting a Jazzercise workout. Boy was I wrong! Our trainer, David, announced 15 minutes into the workout that we just finished the warm up. This was the hardest I’ve pushed my body in my life and that was just the warm up? David warned that if you’re going to throw up, make sure you make it to the garbage can. Determined, I took my sore, aching body back to Squeeze the very next day.
Shannon and I met after I survived my first week. We looked over my food journal, took some measurements, and set some goals. Shannon’s enthusiasm and energy was so contagious that I was ready for success this time around!
All of the trainers at Squeeze took a personal interest in my success. David regularly encouraged/harassed me about moving up to the next heaviest kettle bell. Shannon pushed me every day to take it to the next level and “don’t stop, don’t stop!” Shannon continued to get together with me to track my progress. We were both frustrated and confused by my lack of results. The best and loudest cheerleader I’ve ever met (Shannon) encouraged me to once again look for a medical cause. With a little more trial and error, I found BodyLogic. Dr. Raskin was the first doctor that didn’t make me feel like I was obsessed with my weight. With Shannon’s unwavering support and BodyLogic’s unique approach, my body was back in balance ready to allow my workouts and healthy eating to produce results. After a few months of BodyLogic’s treatment, continuing my daily Squeeze workouts, and starting Shannon’s infamous Wedding/Bikini Diet, I was losing body fat, losing that “puffy face look,” and taking up less space. My clothes were getting loose for the first time in six years!
Throughout my journey, my husband Bruce listened to Karina, Diana, Tami and I go on and on at neighborhood parties and dinners about Shannon, David, snatches, cleans, and kettle bells. He was curious, but since he was struggling with calf issues that were impairing his workout goals, he kept making excuses why he couldn’t work out at Squeeze. Shannon and I had talked about Bruce’s calf issues, but while he was happy that I had found a place to work out that I loved, he wasn’t ready to try something new.
Then I convinced Bruce to attend the the Halloween Party of the new Brookfield location. Shannon immediatelyconnected with Bruce. Bruce watched Shannon compete with the firefighters on a challenge to slam the large ropes on the ground the most times in a minute. If you’ve met Shannon, you’ll know that she was a machine! Shannon and Bruce each drank a Tecate beer bomb while chatting. Then she asked him when he was going to start working out with us. Within a couple weeks Bruce took the challenge. Within days he was working out six days a week at four o’clock with his workout buddies Jeff and Scott. As he puts it, he drank the “Squeeze Kool-Aid.”
Four months later, Bruce was leaner, stronger, and feeling better, and down to 12.7% body fat from 30.2%! Bruce will proudly tell you that with the intense workouts and modification to your diet, you can still get amazing results without giving up beer. Bruce is waiting for Shannon to develop a Cleanse Program that includes beer.
Not only have Bruce and I both become members of the Squeeze Family, but we now together talk about the grueling workouts, Shannon, David, Mari, Karyn, cleanses, snatches, and kettle bells! If that’s not true love I don’t know what is!

I’LL GET YOU BIKINI READY WHILE I GET WEDDING READY!!!
So my wedding count down officially started March 21st and from there I have 89 days to go! I’m pumped!!!
Since I’m a personal trainer most people are like, “WTF, you don’t have to lose any weight!! Why are you doing this?”
My answer: Because in order to stay lean I need a plan to follow. I’ve been ‘eating clean’ for years but that’s not a structured plan. I need rules or I break them. Even though I eat minimal amounts of dairy, sugar, and wheat, that Cadbury egg stares me down and I’ll gobble it up. If I have people like YOU (my oh- so-wonderful clients) on board with me, we’ll all get killer results because you know you’ll hear it from me in the form of torturous workouts if you don’t stick to it, and it’ll be worse if I don’t stick to it.
Have you met me? If I put my mind to something, I achieve it – and this is the ultimate motivation for me… MY WEDDING!!! As your fearless leader – I am promising to hold myself and YOU accountable to the Wedding Diet.
This diet is for:
- GUYS TOO
- Getting a flat stomach for summer
- Making you feel lean and strong
- Giving you TONS of energy
- People getting divorced, not just married
- Keeping you on track
- Holding you accountable
This diet is NOT for:
- Whiners
- People who cheat on plans
- People who are trying to get a keg, not a 6 pack
- People looking for excuses
What you will get:
- Every 4 weeks a new diet plan for 3 months up to my wedding
- Substitution list (for example, if you don’t like fish)
- A couple options for each meal of the day
- Bi-weekly body fat measurements to keep you on track
- Unlimited email support from me, the expert
- A team of people sticking to it and working together
- A cardio plan to go along with your workout program and diet plan
- AN AMAZING BODY
WARNING: Extreme Results will be achieved. If you have reached your ultimate body goal before the wedding diet ends, you have permission to stop the Wedding Diet and go back to a maintenance program in which I, Shannon, will personally write out for you along with a Thank You for supporting me leading up to my big day!!!!

Karyn’s Story

I’m in a rut; bored with working out and hating how I look. I binge eat and continue to beat myself up. My self- image and self esteem are terrible.
…that was before Shannon Carney and Squeeze Studio Fitness were a part of my life. I thank my boyfriend, Joe (firefighter for Milwaukee Fire Dept), for bringing Shannon and Squeeze into my life. This is a summary of one of our conversations:
Joe: There’s this place some of the firemen go and workout, you’d like it.
Me: No, there’s no way I’ll let firefighters see me all disgusting when I workout.
Joe: But a woman owns it and girls go there, too. The guys say she’s cool.
Me: No way, I can only imagine the super-fit and beautiful women that workout there. I would just be embarrassed.
Joe: They focus on using ‘kettlebells’ (whatever those are, I thought) and have bootcamp style workouts, you’d like it.
Me: No way, I don’t do well with new things or change.
As a result of this conversation, Joe bought me a month at “Squeeze Studio Fitness”! After my consult with Shannon Carney, I was intimidated. I took my first bootcamp, I thought I was going to pass out. That was in October 2009. It’s now March 2011 and I couldn’t have had a more amazing journey! I wish I could measure the drastic change in my mindset and attitude because those stats would be impressive. I’ve slowly recovered from my binge eating. Shannon’s patience, support, encouragement and one on one evaluations as we worked together led me to seek help from a specific professional to help me with the underlying issue leading me to binge eating…I never thought back then that one short year later I would be enjoying my healthy meal plan and lifestyle.
I look in the mirror today and see an amazing woman. I don’t care how disgusting I look when I work out. I love the people at Squeeze, kettlebells and bootcamps!
Last spring, I remember when Kelly and Shannon told me I would really be a great motivator and teacher as a bootcamp instructor. They asked me if I would be interested in filling in as a trainer when Kelly wouldn’t be able to do core-camp. I was ecstatic! I soaked up every workout in my first year and never missed a bootcamp! I really appreciated how my confidence grew every time I was able to pump people up and give them a great workout.
I wanted more!!! Shannon worked with me diligently on nutrition, meal planning, cleansing, supplements, and most importantly, how to combine certain exercises to make an incredibility fun and challenging workout for people. Now that Shannon expanded to her new location I’ve been running Oh, S.H.I.T. (super high intensity training sessions). I’m pumped! I am so grateful and truly appreciate Squeeze Studio Fitness (clients and trainers). Dave’s sarcasm and gangsta qualities are unbeatable. Shannon’s energy and athleticism are remarkable. Kelly’s ability to find balance is spectacular. Mari’s positivity and support are admirable. Janice and Lizzy created the TURQUOISE CREW. Demarco created KARROT and Freddy created BLUEBERRY. Just, thank you to all!
I’m grateful Joe didn’t listen.
